Carol E. Holmes

 In loving memory of Carol Elizabeth Holmes. October 3, 1951 - August 21, 2020. After a brief illness Carol passed away peacefully in Buffalo, New York, with family at her side. She was the only child of Dr. Herbert C. Holmes and Josephine Johnson Holmes who preceded her in death. A lifetime Buffalo resident, Carol attended The Campus School at Buffalo State College and Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama. She was an active member of First Shiloh Baptist Church, and a former member of Lloyd’s Memorial United Church of Christ, which once was pastored by her maternal grandfather, the late Reverend Sidney O.B. Johnson.

Carol had an entrepreneurial spirit, having worked for Tupperware, Avon and a national jewelry distributor. She also worked briefly for a local bank.

Carol was very active in the community. She assisted in the management of the Buffalo Mavericks Drum and Bugle Corps., which was founded by her uncle, the late Charles Robert Johnson. She also volunteered with United Negro College Fund telethons and worked at local food pantries. Carol had a big heart, often opening her home to those in need and making them feel like family.

Never married or having children, Carol dedicated herself selflessly to her numerous godchildren and young cousins whom she loved dearly. She also had a fondness for dogs, having mothered several four-legged fur babies. Carol was known as an excellent event planner, organizer and cook. She loved, loved, loved her Buffalo Bills. She was a diehard Bills fan and season ticket holder for many years. Carol is survived by a host of cousins, godchildren and friends, and her dog, Prince. A memorial service will be streamed on October 3, 2020. Details will be posted in Services at a later date.
