Clara Mae was born on June 20, 1953 to John Henry and Louise Brooks in Buffalo, New York.
Clara was a student of the Buffalo Public School System and a graduate of East High School.
After school, Clara was gainfully employed with the General Motors Powertrain Corporation in Tonawanda, New York. Clara’s interest in beauty and hair guided her to Cosmetology School, she attended and graduated from the Continental School of Beauty.
During Clara’s career in Cosmetology. She worked at Charlene’s Unisex Hair salon, servicing many notable Buffalonians. Later, Clara’s beauty talent and business mindset lead her to open her very own shop, “Clara’s Discount Beauty Salon.”
Clara received Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at an early age. Clara was a member of Elim Christian Fellowship, where she served on the Pastoral Care team as well as the Prison Ministry under the Pastoral Leadership of Bishop T. Anthony Bronner.
Clara enjoyed shopping, spending quality time with her family and friends. She loved watching BET and giving orders. Clara said what everyone else thought and was not afraid to say it. Her creative eye was second to none, many would wonder how she would take nothing and turn it into something.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents John Henry and Louise Brooks, her brothers: John Henry Jr and Charles Johnson-Brooks. Clara leaves to cherish her memory: A sister Rita (Ron), her children Shtara, Cornelius (Evanie), Wynette, Leo (Tashia), Sade. 17 grandchildren: Nico, Cornelius Jr., Dyamond, Kayla, Chassadey, Kiara, Carnell, Nyjuan, Elijah, Lauren, Kahlik, Tyrus, Dream, David, Kani, Kamir, Damari. 5 great grandchildren: Caleb, Nico, Layonna, Noah, Dinero. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
