Dorothy Jean Gray A beautiful flower that bloomed on May 21, 1950 to the late Samuel & Essie Jean Williams in Samson, Alabama. She later relocated with her family to Pocomoke City, Maryland and attended Steven Long Elementary School. In 1962 the family moved to Buffalo, NY where she attended School #39 & East High School. Dorothy was joined in holy matrimony to Matthew Gray.
Dorothy started her career at St. Frances Nursing Home as a Nurses Aide. She also enjoyed playing pool in her youthful years for Dee’s Toes woman pool team and being a barmaid at Dee’s Toes, Arthurs Pub and The 600. Dorothy loved to dance, watch western movies and game shows. Dorothy was employed by the Buffalo Public Schools for over 20 years, retiring in September of 2021 from school 89. At her retirement party she danced all night, enjoying herself with co-workers, family and friends.
Dorothy joined the Thankful Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Lewis D. Long. She served as a Sunday school teacher, youth director, sang in the choir and enjoyed being a servant of the lord at Thankful with her beloved Pastor, Tommy Babbs.
Dorothy had an endless love for her family, she became the caretakers of her grandson Zhaire, and nephews Eddie Jones & Dockell Mack until she departed life on January 5, 2022. Dorothy could be seen daily on facebook encouraging her nieces, nephews and family. When problems presented themselves, you could always depend on her for a prayer or inspiring words. Dot Jean as her family called her, did things her way and always spoke the truth.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her beloved son Robert I. Wilson Jr. (Sherrill) , her great nephews Eddie Jones and Dockell Mack, sisters Clara Hartley and Betty Maclin of Buffalo, NY. Brother: Samuel Williams Jr. Aunt: Charlene Miles of Detroit, Mi. Grandchildren: Shaquanna, Chuckena and Robert Wilson III. Great-grandchildren: Zhaire, Zy’Cariah, Devon Jr, De’Layah & Ke’Naila. God daughters: Letitia Quarles & Ramona Reynolds. Godson: Samuel Radford. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel & Essie Jean Williams, sisters: Charlotte Cantlope and Gloria Diane Sallee, brothers: Leon Williams, Henry Louis Williams and Gregory Williams.
