Roosevelt Smith Sr. Obituary

 Roosevelt Smith Sr. Son of Annie Lou Smith and Walter Smith was born in Stewart, Alabama on March 24, 1924. Roosevelt grew up in Moundville, Alabama where he met and married Clara Whitsett on May 29, 1949, the beginning of a union that would last 52 years.  

In 1953 Roosevelt and his wife Clara moved to the Buffalo area.  Roosevelt and Clara raised six children. Pearl Bishop, Bernice Pleasant, Roosevelt Smith Jr, Laura Ann Smith, Earl Smith and Larry Muhammad Sr.

Roosevelt worked for Bethlehem Steel for over 31 years before retiring in 1984.  He was also a very skilled automotive mechanic and an all-around handyman. He loved to fish and enjoyed playing bingo. He adored his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Our beloved Roosevelt was called to rest on February 5, 2020 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife Clara, sons: Leon and Roosevelt Jr.; daughters: Pearl, Bernice, and Laura Ann; Grandson: Anthony; siblings: Walter Jr., Louis, Willie Lee, Ruby-Nell, Ada, and Peach Emayra.

 

Fond and loving memories will be remembered and cherished by his sister Warrine Rhines; his sons: Earl (Barbara) Smith and Larry (Karen) Muhammad Sr.; grandchildren: Veronica Smith, Petrina Smith, Crystal Muhammad, Larry Muhammad Jr., Angel(Josemar) Muhammad-Garcia, Jabril Muhammad, and Rahman Muhammad,  along with 5 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
